Prime Minister David Cameron said that the lower house of the UK parliament will hold the vote on December 2 on whether the country should launch a military campaign against Daesh in Syria.

MOSCOW(Sputnik) — The lower house of the UK parliament will hold the vote on December 2 on whether the country should launch a military campaign against Daesh (ISIL or Islamic State) militant group in Syria, Prime Minister David Cameron said.

"I can announce that I will be recommending to Cabinet tomorrow that we hold a debate and a vote in the House of Commons to extend the airstrikes that we’ve carried out against ISIL [Daesh] in Iraq, that we extend that to Syria," Cameron said in a statement Monday.

The UK leader said he believed that the support for the expansion of airstrikes was growing among the lawmakers, and it was "the right thing to do."

The United Kingdom has been conducting airstrikes on Daesh in Iraq since September 2014, as part of a US-led international coalition against the extremist group.

An international coalition of 65 nations has been fighting for over a year to defeat Daesh in Iraq and to a lesser extent in Syria, where Russia has been conducting airstrikes against Daesh positions at the request of President Bashar Assad since September. Russia has outlawed Daesh on its territory, classifying it as a terrorist organization.
