WASHINGTON(Sputnik) — Nearly two thirds of Americans consider the United States should sign an international treaty to combat global warming, a new CBS News/New York Times poll released on Monday found amid the start of the Climate Summit in Paris.
According to the poll, some 66 percent of respondents say the United States should "join an international treaty requiring America to reduce [carbon] emissions in an effort to fight global warming."
Less than a third of Americans, or 27 percent, disagree.
The results of the poll come as leaders of more than 130 countries begin discussions at the UN 21st Climate Change Conference in Paris that will run until December 11.
Numerous leaders have said they expect to reach a legally binding agreement on climate change at the Paris Summit.
