MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Thousands of medical procedures across England have been canceled despite the suspension of a strike by junior doctors, British media reported Tuesday.
"Hospitals across England are facing major disruption with the cancellation of thousands of operations, despite a 24-hour strike by junior doctors being called off," the BBC broadcaster reported.
A snapshot survey conducted by the UK Press Association revealed the cancellation of 3,500 outpatient appointments and some 600 operations across 20 National Health Service (NHS) trusts. There are 155 acute trusts, including 101 foundation trusts, in England.
The British Medical Association (BMA) announced on Monday it had reached an agreement with the UK Department of Health and the NHS Employers to "re-enter genuine negotiations."
Two BMA walk-outs in December have been canceled in addition to the strikes called off on Tuesday over contract disputes.
