MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Ahmed Nazif, who served as Egypt's prime minister from 2004 and 2011, was dismissed from his post together with the rest of the government, during Egypt's 18-day revolution in 2011. He has been in custody since April 2011 on corruption charges.
Nazif's lawyers have sought an appeal, arguing that the charges are unfounded, the Youm7 newspaper's website reported. The case against Nazif is set to be re-tried on February 3, 2016.
Egypt's January 25 Revolution brought an end to President Hosni Mubarak's 30-year rule. The former president has also been tried on corruption charges. He was handed a three year jail term in May 2015 on charges of embezzling $14 million.
