GORKI (Moscow Region) (Sputnik) — Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak asked the heads of the country's regions and energy companies to pay special attention to the protection of fuel and energy facilities against terrorist threats.
"I would like to draw attention…to the issues of counter-terrorism security of the fuel and energy complex. The Russian Energy Ministry held corresponding consultations with the [federal] subjects of the Russian Federation, with electric power industry entities, and I would like to draw attention to the organization of the relevant work, once again — checks of all the activities…additional testing and training," Novak said at the meeting on preparation for the fall-winter period.
In the wake of recent terror attacks, specifically, the crash of a Russian plane over Egypt's Sinai Peninsula in October and the terror acts in Paris in November, the global security situation has become a topic of much debate, with many states boosting their national defenses.
Russia has been conducting pinpoint airstrikes on Islamic State (ISIL, or Daesh in the Arab world) militant positions in Syria at the request of Syrian President Bashar Assad in its anti-terrorist efforts. ISIL is outlawed in Russia and many other countries.
