France Bans Fans of Russian FC Rubin From Away Game Against Bordeaux

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — French authorities prohibited fans of the Russian football club Rubin Kazan from visiting UEFA Europa League Group B away match against FC Girondins de Bordeaux on December 10, according to a statement released by the French Embassy in Russia.

The embassy said that due to the high level of terrorist threat and an introduced state of emergency in France, the French Interior Ministry decided to ban the movement of people both as a part of organized groups of fans or individually.

"Thus, the movement in France of FC Rubin Kazan fans or of individuals acting as their supporters, will be prohibited both on the French border posts and at the entry points to the city of Bordeaux from noon on December 9 to midnight on December 10 regardless of the type of transportation," the statement reads.

FC Rubin Kazan in a statement released on Wednesday asked the supporters to "take notice of the French Interior Ministry's recommendations" and added that Paris threatened to the fans who would travel to support their favorite team with the imprisonment of six months and a fine of 30,000 euros.

Security measures have been stepped up across France after the November 13 terrorist attacks in Paris claimed by the Islamic State (IS, or Daesh in the Arab world), a jihadist group that is outlawed in Russia and many other countries, that saw 130 people killed and over 360 injured.
