Addressing the Federal Assembly earlier in the day, Russian President Vladimir Putin called for all arguments and differences to be put aside in order for a broad and united anti-terrorist effort to be created under the aegis of the UN and in adherence to international law.
"I think Russia is also very important for the situation, for the balance and also for the responsibility, and therefore the idea of broad coalition is very interesting, and should be taken seriously, and taken seriously in account to accept it," Austrian Freedom Party’s Franz Obermayr said.
"So the question is why the US did not bomb those trucks. So it is good that Russia is involved right now," Obermayr said.
He stressed that the United States did not stop the oil trade because it did not want to interfere with an ally.
Since September, Russia has been conducting airstrikes on ISIL position in Syria, following a request from the Syrian authorities. A US-led international coalition has also been attacking the group in Syria and Iraq since 2014.
Turkey’s F-16 fighter shot down a Russian Aerospace Forces Su-24 Fencer plane over Syria on November 24, inflicting a deep rift in the countries' relations. Russia imposed a series of economic measures this week in response to the attack that President Putin described as a "stab in the back" by "accomplices of terrorists."
