In addition to the mandate to dispatch German servicemen, the Bundestag is also expected to approve the sending of six Tornado reconnaissance jets, a frigate and refuelling aircraft.
German involvement is expected to be limited to support and reconnaissance.
The mission’s cost is preliminary estimated to reach about €134 million ($141.7 million).
According to German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen, the previous experience of Germany's limited participation in the anti-terrorist coalition in Syria has been successful.
Von der Leyen recalled on Thursday that German military instructors in Iraq had been engaged in training the Kurdish Peshmerga forces, "successfully fighting" in Syria, for over a year.
Being a member of the US-led coalition against Daesh militants, Germany has so far provided only logistical and technical assistance to the international alliance, refraining from participation in the coalition’s airstrikes.
