WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – The United States and Cuba can reach a civil aviation agreement, which will allow direct flights between the two countries, before the end of the year, US Senator Jeff Flake announced on Thursday.
"I think it might come as early as the end of this month, it is a civil aviation agreement between the two governments which will allow not just charter flights, but also direct scheduled flights," Flake said at the Cuba Summit in Washington, DC.
Flake has been part of the congressional delegation pushing for normalizing US-Cuban relations. He cosponsored legislation in the US Senate aimed at lifting the travel ban from the island nation.
