MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to The Telegraph newspaper’s Friday report,, Cameron told the senior figures in the Conservative party that he would support the United Kingdom leaving the bloc if he were to consider his renegotiation with the European Union unsuccessful.
"He has said that if he is completely ignored or if they give him nothing he will campaign to leave. He has made that clear," a source told the newspaper.
Cameron pledged during his pre-election campaign earlier this year to hold the so-called Brexit, Britain’s exit from the European Union, referendum before the end of 2017.
Cameron has repeatedly said that EU membership is beneficial for the United Kingdom, but only if the bloc were to implement new reforms. He pledged to achieve the reforms first, and then hold the referendum.
London wants the right not to commit itself to EU's pledge of an "ever closer union," curb social benefits for EU migrants, secure greater protections for non-eurozone countries in the EU bloc, and more power for national government.
