MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to Le Journal du Dimanche, a 23-page report dating back to 1998 contains a line proving that Platini was to receive 1 million Swiss francs ($1 million) as salary from the football governing body FIFA.
"This piece comes to demonstrate… that Michel Platini’s contact with FIFA had no covert nature, and that many people, including UEFA and FIFA knew about it," one of Platini’s lawyers told the media outlet.
In late September, the Swiss Office of the Attorney General launched a probe into corruption claims against FIFA President Joseph Blatter over making a "disloyal payment" of $2.05 million to Platini in 2011 at the expense of FIFA, for work allegedly performed in 1999-2002. Blatter and Platini told investigators the payment was legal, but the committee provisionally suspended both last month.
According to Platini, FIFA paid the disputed money for his work on the global competition calendar, a FIFA Goal program supporting global football federation and for accompanying Blatter in his travels without a written contract.
