WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The Chinook is built by Boeing’s defense, space and security unit based in St. Louis, Missouri, according to the release.
"These new Mark-6 helicopters will significantly enhance our existing heavy-lift helicopter and Special Forces capability," RAF Air Vice-Marshal Julian Young stated on Monday.
"Our overall fleet of 60 Chinooks will support our frontline troops in…operations for decades to come."
Boeing noted that RAF uses its Chinooks to perform troop transport, air assault and medical evacuation missions.
"The Mark-6 Chinook has a new, machined monolithic air frame, UK-specific avionics, rescue hoist and interoperable communication and navigation equipment," Boeing explained.
