WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Trudeau’s Liberals won a landslide victory in the general election on October 19 while the New Democrats lost more than half of their seats in the House of Commons, the main chamber of the Canadian parliament.
"The rules around the ethical conduct of ministers clearly indicate that preferential access to government or the ministerial cabinet cannot be bought or subject to favoritism," the letter stated on Monday. "This e-mail contradicts those ethical guidelines."
In the email, the Liberal Party offered its supporters the chance to win an invitation to its parliamentary caucus holiday party in exchange for donations. It offered the winner the opportunity to meet Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his cabinet ministers.
"The Liberal government promised to do politics differently," NDP ethics critic Alexandre Boulerice said in a statement. "Unfortunately, we’re seeing the same questionable practices that we did with the old parties. Is that real change?"
