"We believe that international terrorism, and such a phenomenon as ISIL [also known as Daesh], which has managed to actually occupy a large amount of territories of several states, we’re talking about Syria and Iraq, of course, presents an equal threat to all of us, for all states," Peskov said.
"President [Vladimir] Putin and Russian representatives at various levels have repeatedly stressed our belief that an effective fight against this dangerous phenomenon [Daesh] is possible only in the framework of a united coalition and full coordination of joint actions," the Kremlin spokesman told journalists in response to US President Barack Obama’s speech dedicated to the issue of the fight against terrorism.
Earlier in the day, Obama in an address to the nation pledged to destroy Daesh, adding that a political settlement of the Syrian civil war would enable "every country, including our allies, but also countries like Russia" focus on the fight against terrorism.
"The creation of a coalition does not require any deals. A coalition cannot created on the basis of deals, a coalition can only be created on the basis of understanding that there are no alternative means of fighting terrorism," Peskov told reporters.
