Germans Consider France Major Strategic Partner, Russia Comes 2nd

France is the most important strategic partner to Germany in Europe, while Russia ranks in second place, a recent poll published on Monday found.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The poll by YouGov research company revealed that 52 percent of the German population believe that France is their country's main strategic partner. Russia holds second place with 7 percent, and the United Kingdom ended up in third with 4 percent, according to the poll.

The results varied significantly across different age groups, with one in three respondents aged 18 to 24 voting for France, while 10 percent of their peers named Russia as Germany's major strategic partner.

Sixty-seven percent of people above 55-years-old view France as their country's major strategic ally, with only 5 percent naming Russia as such in this age group.

The survey was conducted on December 1-4, with 1,128 people interviewed.
