Parliamentary Elections in Venezuela: Facts and Details
MEXICO CITY (Sputnik) – According to the council’s head, Tibisay Lucena, the opposition coalition of the Democratic Unity Table (MUD) has received 99 seats in the parliament, whereas the pro-presidential United Socialists Party of Venezuela has taken 46.

Though the opposition has anchored a majority, it needs one more seat for an absolute majority.

The MUD was established in 2008 to unify the opposition against the United Socialist Party of Venezuela, ruled by then-President Hugo Chavez.

The socialist rule of the pro-presidential party has been lasting for 16 years, since Chavez launched his leftist social movement, Bolivarian Revolution,  which has been in control of the National Assembly.

The victory of the opposition gives the National Assembly a right to start proceedings to recall Maduro in 2016, even though his term does not expire until 2019.
