MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Biden arrived in Kiev on December 6 and has already met with Kiev Mayor Vitaliy Klichko, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, and Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk.
This is the first time Biden has spoken before the Verkhovna Rada.
A military conflict in eastern Ukraine, which broke out in April 2014, has put the county on the verge of a severe economic crisis. Kiev authorities have been trying to rescue the country's economy using international financial assistance.
According to the White House's most recent estimates, the United States alone has already provided nearly $200 million in aid to Ukraine to assist the country fight corruption, strengthen energy security and attract investment to the country in crisis, among other objectives.
