The Syrian Arab Army units and elements of the National Defense Forces have successfully liberated the villages of Akko and Bouz al-Kherba in the northeastern part of the province of Latakia, killing scores of Islamist militants in the process.
According to Fars, large amounts of weaponry and army rations reportedly made in Saudi Arabia and UAE were discovered in the captured militant strongholds, along with a hospital and a wide assortment of weaponry.
Syria has been in a state of civil war since 2011, with the country’s government fighting opposition forces and radical Islamist militant groups, including the al-Nusra Front and Daesh, also known as ISIL or Islamic State.
