WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – The US administration has filed a complaint with the World Trade Organization (WTO) over China’s taxation on smaller aircraft, US Trade Representative Mike Froman said in a press release on Tuesday.
“China’s discriminatory, unfair tax policy is harmful to American workers and American businesses of all sizes in the critical aviation industry,” Froman said.
The US Trade Representative’s Office said Washington has requested formal consultations with Beijing through the WTO.
The United States has claimed that China imposes a 17% value-added tax on foreign-made smaller planes, while the domestic aircraft industry remains exempt from fees.
In 2014, the United States exported aircraft and equipment to China worth about $14 billion, according to media reports.
