MOSCOW (Sputnik) – A new Russian missile unit armed with S-300 missile defense systems has been activated in the Arctic, the Russian Defense Ministry’s Northern Fleet’s press service announced on Wednesday.
“A new missile unit from the Kola unit of anti-air defense has been activated in the Northern Fleet to protect the state borders of the Russian Federation. The unit is formed and is permanently deployed in the Novaya Zemlya archipelago. It is equipped with modernized S-300 missile defense systems capable of guaranteeing the destruction of air attacks by an enemy within a radius of several hundred kilometers,” the Northern Fleet’s press service head, Vadim Serga, said.
