WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — According to the Justice Department, Edmonds planned to carry out the attack on the US Army National Guard base with his cousin Hasan, who had trained there, but decided to join the Islamic State and eventually go to the Middle East.
"Jonas M. Edmonds, 30, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiring to provide material support to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL)… and one count of making a materially false statement to a law enforcement officer regarding an offense involving international terrorism," the statement said on Wednesday.
As part of the plan, Hasan was to give Edmonds a US military uniform to wear during the attack and inform him which officers on the base to target.
Edmonds now faces a maximum sentence of up to 15 years in prison for the material support charge in addition to up to eight years in prison for providing a false statement, the Justice Department explained.
