"There is a change of mindset in the economic and financial world. I think this is the main thing that was derived from COP21….People understood that it is costlier to keep doing as we do than to change our way of behavior," Segolene Royal said on the sidelines of the Climate Conference, summarizing the results of the talks on the Lima-Paris Action Agenda (LPAA).
The LPAA was launched a year ago at the previous climate change conference in Peru. It aims to strengthen climate action beyond COP21.
"We have been successful in the number of concrete commitments that have come out during this week. It was not obvious at all," Royal said.
The French capital is currently chairing and hosting the 21st UN Climate Change Conference, which is due draw to a close on December 11. Representatives of almost 200 countries are expected to reach a legally binding, universal agreement on climate change, which is due to replace the existing Kyoto Protocol, signed in 1997.
