UNITED NATIONS (Sputnik) – Churkin explained that the existing sanctions regime targeting al-Qaeda will be broadened to include the Islamic State (ISIL of Daesh, outlawed in Russia) as a separate entity.
"We are currently working jointly with the US delegation on a joint project which would bring those two regions together. It will be a big resolution to fight terrorism. We are rather sure that we shall be able to achieve this, that this resolution will be ready by December 18," Churkin told reporters Tuesday.
The resolution will also contain a provision calling for implementation of the resolution 2199. This resolution calls for prevention of groups such as ISIL and al-Qaeda affiliate the al-Nusra Front benefitting from oil, antiquities and hostages, as well as from receiving donations.
Earlier this month, Churkin said that Russia was in talks with the UN Security Council members on the draft resolution on implementation of resolution 2199.
