Europe and the US seem to be losing patience with Ukraine: the conflict in Donbass can no longer serve as an excuse for Kiev's inaction in battling widespread corruption in the country, according to a journalist from the German broadcaster Deutsche Welle.

Deutsche Welle, a German-based international broadcaster, has offered its own account of the US vice president's trip to Ukraine.

Neither the Ukrainian government, nor the president have undertaken any real measures to cope with the growing “cancer of corruption” in the country, reporter Bernd Johann wrote in his article for the broadcaster’s website.

With This Team? Biden Urges Anti-Corruption, Economic Reforms in Ukraine
The conflict in Donbass can no longer serve as an excuse for any inaction in battling corruption, the author quotes Joe Biden as saying while on his trip to Kiev.

Biden addressed his words to the parliament in Kiev to express how dissatisfied Washington is with Ukrainian policies, the author says.

The same issue was atop the agenda of the Association Council meeting between the EU and Ukraine in Brussels.

On the one hand, the Europeans have shown Ukraine that it has prospects for European Union membership. However, the author says it is just “praise in advance”. Kiev does not comply with the demands of the West and is too slow in carrying out required reforms.

However, the Wall Street Journal says that the above message is "being undermined as Joe Biden's son, who has been serving as an independent director of Ukrainian gas firm Burisma Holdings Ltd., receives money from a former Ukrainian official who is being investigated for graft."
