South Korea, Russia Cooperate to Resolve North Korean Nuclear Issue
"China's stance is clear and invariable, Beijing consistently speaks up for the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, the protection of the peace and stability of the peninsula, and insists that the relevant issues be resolved through dialogue," Hua said.

She added that China hopes the two countries will do everything in their power to defuse tensions on the peninsula.

In 2003, Pyongyang withdrew from the international Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), a deal that was intended to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons manufacturing and possible use. In 2005, North Korea declared itself a nuclear power and conducted several nuclear weapon tests, sparking concerns in the international community.
