Dobrynya, the police dog gifted by Russia to French police to replace a police dog fallen in the Novemeber 13 Paris attacks, will serve in an elite unit of French national police, the French Ambassador to Russia Jean-Maurice Ripert wrote.
The puppy was gifted to replace Diesel, a 7-year-old Belgian Malinois, which was a member of a French anti-terrorist police unit. Diesel was killed during the siege in Saint-Denis that targeted terrorists involved in the Paris attacks. The dog was sent upstairs to check out a potentially dangerous situation before police officers could move in for an attack.
"After training, our new friend will be sent to an elite unit of the national police as a patrol dog, or for the location of explosives," Ripert wrote on the French Embassy in Moscow Facebook page.
"Dobrynya can only begin its training at the age of 11 months. Until then, awaiting his 'assignment' into the ranks of French police, his future handler will take care of him personally," Ripert added.
