MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The speakers of Eurasian national parliaments could hold a meeting in 2016 to discuss the fight against international terrorism and the development of economic cooperation in the region, Russian lower house speaker Sergei Naryshkin said Thursday.

According to Naryshkin, Russia supports the initiative of South Korean National Assembly Speaker Chung Ui-hwa to hold a meeting of speakers of Eurasian national parliaments in 2016.

"We would like to dedicate such a big Eurasian parliamentary meeting to two topics… The first – is the fight against international terrorism, the second topic is the development of economic cooperation in this large developing world region," he said.

The Russian Foreign Ministry and Ministry of Justice have received a proposal on the establishment of a Eurasian Court of Human Rights, Izvestiya newspaper reported Friday. - Sputnik International

Naryshkin also stressed that Russia was interested in developing inter-parliamentary relations with South Korea. He noted that in May a delegation from the lower house of the Russian parliament paid an official visit to Seoul, while Chung Ui-hwa visited Russia in the fall.

In November, the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) also supported the idea of holding a meeting of Eurasian parliamentary speakers with a special focus on anti-terrorism measures, after a series of deadly attacks in Paris left 130 people dead, and a bomb explosion on board Russian Airbus A321, killed 224 people.
