WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Gen.-Maj. Igor Konashenkov said Wednesday there were no Russian aircraft over the region at the time of the attack. He also said that US authorities know that Moscow informs Syria’s Air Force of the time, altitude, and corridors that Russia is using in accordance with a signed memorandum.
“There were no coalition aircraft in that area when those soldiers were killed,” Warren claimed.
According to the Syrian Foreign Ministry, four coalition aircraft launched nine missiles at Syrian Army facilities on Sunday evening that killed three and injured another 13, while destroying numerous military vehicles, weapons and equipment.
“When the initial reporting came out that the Syrian soldiers were killed, there were no coalition aircraft anywhere near that area. About an hour later, an hour after the initial reports came out coalition aircraft conducted an airstrike about 60 miles away,” Warren explained.
Syria’s Foreign Ministry sent an official protest to the UN Security Council claiming that coalition airstrikes hit Syrian Army facilities in Deir ez-Zor province, Syria’s official SANA news agency reported Monday.
Damascus added that the attack on the military post hinders efforts to fight terrorism and highlights the US-led coalition's lack of "seriousness and credibility" in countering terrorism.
A US-led international coalition has been conducting airstrikes against the Islamic State, or Daesh in the Arab world, extremist group in Syria since 2014 without the approval of the UN Security Council or the Syrian government.
