CARACAS (Sputnik) — Venezuela's opposition seeks to paralyze the state and weaken it from the inside like the "Trojan horse," Saul Ortega, a lawmaker from the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) told Sputnik.

The Democratic Unity Roundtable (MUD) party got 112 seats after all the votes have been counted, while President Nicolas Maduro’s PSUV got 55 in the Sunday elections, according to the national electoral council.

"There are signals that they [opposition] are going to stick to their plan to weaken the state and its institutions as the Trojan horse," Ortega said.

He added that the opposition's pledge to review "social gains we have conquered with the Bolivarian revolution" is one of such signals.

Maduro's Party Says Venezuelan Opposition Has 'Hidden Agenda'
Ortega stressed that the key opposition goal is to obtain control over Venezuela's oil reserves which "interest them more than the welfare of the people."

Until the election upset, the socialist pro-presidential party had remained in power for 16 years, since then-President Hugo Chavez launched his leftist social movement, Bolivarian Revolution, re-nationalizing the country's oil industry. The newly formed National Assembly is set to commence work in January 2016.
