MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Thursday, the United Nations Office in Geneva (UNOG) tightened security at UN-related buildings amid concerns over possible terrorist attacks in the Swiss city. The measures came after Geneva police received an alert on Wednesday that four individuals suspected of involvement in the deadly Paris terrorist attacks on November 13 were likely to be found in Geneva or its neighborhood.
"The Swiss government received information from a foreign authority regarding a potential ISIL cell in the Geneva area,” Sommaruga said, as quoted by the Sky News.
According to her, the federal authorities examined the information and shared it with the local police.
"There is currently no indication that there was a concrete attack planned," the media quoted the president as saying.
Earlier on Friday, UNOG spokesman Rheal LeBlanc told Sputnik that the increased security measures at the UNOG would stay in place until further notice from Swiss authorities.
The ISIL, a jihadist organization that claimed responsibility for the Paris attacks in which 130 people were killed, is outlawed in a number of countries including Russia.
