WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The Arrow-3 interceptor, the release explained, will serve as the uppermost layer of Israel’s multi-tiered missile defense system.
The other layers include the operational Iron Dome System, David's Sling Weapon System, which is close to being deployed operationally as well as the operational Arrow-2, according to the release.
"The Israel Missile Defense Organization (IMDO) and the… MDA have engaged a ballistic missile target with the Arrow-3 interceptor on December 10, 2015… from an Israeli test range," the release stated on Thursday.
The Arrow-3 interceptor performed its planned trajectory and engaged the low-debris target in the exoatmosphere according to plan, the release noted.
"Preliminary analysis indicates that test objectives were successfully achieved," it said. "This successful test is a major milestone in the development of the Arrow Weapon System and provides confidence in future Israeli capabilities to defeat the developing threats."
