MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Kamov Ka-27 helicopters from Russia’s Northern Fleet carried out submarine search drills in the Barents Sea, the Russian Navy’s Northern Fleet spokesman Сapt. 1st Rank Vadim Serga said Friday.
"Pilots carried out training flights on radar and magnetometric searches for submarines at sea under polar night conditions," Serga told reporters.
The spokesman added that the crews tested techniques to search for and classify submarines, as well as surveying them with the use of radar and hydroacoustic equipment.
On Thursday, Serga said warships from Russia’s Northern Fleet had held firing exercises with missile launches in the Barents Sea, as part of a larger program of combat readiness drills.
