Turkish President Rules Out Troops Withdrawal From Iraq
Iraqi MP Awatef Nema told RT that no agreements regulating the Turkish military presence in northern Iraq were made between the governments of the two countries.

Earlier President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan claimed that Turkey will not pullout its troops from Iraq as they have been deployed in the country for training of Iraqi military and police rather than for combat.

"Our servicemen went to Iraq as instructors, their mission is limited to training," Erdogan said during a news conference in Ankara on Thursday.

"It is clear that everything that Erdogan told is untrue, because no arrangements were made between Erdogan and the Iraqi government. There are no Iraqi military forces in that region," Nema told RT.

"There are only terrorist groups’ encampments there. I must point out that they aren’t training Iraqi soldiers there, our soldiers don’t need to be trained by Turkish forces," she added.

Nema condemned Turkey’s actions, calling them a direct violation of the Iraq’s sovereignty.

On December 4, Turkey deployed about 150 troops and 25 tanks to a base in the Iraqi Nineveh province, without Baghdad's approval. According to Ankara, the aim of the deployment was to provide security to Turkish soldiers deployed earlier at the base to train local Kurdish militia fighting against Daesh (ISIL).
