WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — On Friday, Fallon arrived to the United States to discuss increased military cooperation against the Islamic State, also known as Daesh, with US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter.
“We are not proposing to send combat troops back into Iraq or into Syria,” Fallon stated on Friday. “Prime Minister Abadi made it very clear to me… that they do not want to see British troops on the ground.”
Fallon’s visit came after the House of Commons, the main chamber of the British parliament, approved on December 2 the country’s continued and increased participation in the war against Islamic State terrorists.
The Islamic State is outlawed in Russia and numerous other countries.
