Saudi-Led Coalition Airstrikes Destroy Yemen School System - Rights Group
20:06 GMT 11.12.2015 (Updated: 10:55 GMT 05.03.2023) Airstrikes carried out by Saudi Arabia-led coalition in Yemen, which severely damaged or destroyed local schools, have deprived thousands of Yemeni children from getting school education, according to a human rights organization's report published Friday.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Yemen has been engulfed in a military conflict between the government headed by Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi and Shiite Houthi rebels, who have been supported by army units loyal to former Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh.
9 December 2015, 17:10 GMT
Since late March, a Saudi-led coalition has been carrying out airstrikes against Houthi positions at the request of Hadi.
According to the Amnesty International report, the conflict has had a brutal impact on the education system in Yemen, as 34 percent of children in the country have not gone to school since the conflict began.
8 December 2015, 17:39 GMT
The airstrikes, that in some cases appear to have directly targeted the scools, disrupted the education of over 6,500 children in Yemen, the report revealed.
The warring sides are set to start peace talks on December 15 in Switzerland by introducing a ceasefire regime.
