“The People’s Republic of China and Russia are more aware of the world’s problems than the United States because they have gone through terrible wars unleashed by the blind egoism of fascism,” the Havana-based newspaper Granma quoted Castro as saying.
Fidel Castro said that he hoped that Russia and China would do their best to avoid a new war and that they contributed to the peaceful development of many countries around the world.
“Millions of children and teenagers attending the world’s largest network of state-run schools live in Venezuela. The same is true about medical institutions and the state’s care for the health of its heroic people,” Fidel Castro said.
The leader of the first communist country in the Western Hemisphere, Fidel Castro held the title of Premier until 1976 and then began a long tenure as President of the Council of State and the Council of Ministers.
He handed over provisional power in July 2006 because of health problems and formally relinquished the presidency in February 2008.
