If a drone operator refused to comply, the Tokyo police will break out their bigger drones complete with cameras and nets to capture the unmanned flying objects.
“Terrorist attacks using drones carrying explosives are a possibility,” a police department official told Asahi Shimbum. “We hope to defend the nation’s functions with the worst case scenario in mind.”
Earlier this year, a man flew a drone carrying radioactive sand and landed it on top of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s office in protest of nuclear power.
The drone squad announcement comes one day after new laws for drone operation came into effect limiting flights to below 500 feet and barring drones larger than 200g from residential areas — meaning all of Tokyo.
