WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – A southeast US police officer was placed on administrative leave after shooting a 14-year-old while responding to calls of the teenager shooting a pellet gun in Jacksonville, Florida, local police said Saturday.
"The officer <…> fired six shots at the subject who was pointing the gun at him. One of those shots struck the subject in his left leg," the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) Investigative Divisions Chief Tom Hackney told reporters.
"Split-second decisions have been made. And we will take these seconds and <…> go from there," he stressed.
The JSO spokesman said the officer, two-year veteran Josh Livingood, was placed on administrative leave as standard practice in officer-involved shooting incidents.
The unnamed teen was placed in a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to Hackney.
