In order to crush Daesh Europe must stop buying the oil the terrorists are selling us though our friends, the leader of Italy’s Northern League party said on Saturday.

“We can wipe ISIL off the face of the earth if we stop buying the oil it sells through our friends (here I mean Turkey) and by flushing it out with the only possible method there is – a military intervention,” Matteo Salvini said in an interview with the state-run RaiNews24 television channel.

He called Prime Minister Renzi’s recent visit to Saudi Arabia “a very bad signal and hoped that it would be the last such trip to a country which “sponsors terrorism on an international level.”

Speaking about the EU’s sanctions against Russia, Matteo Salvini, who is also a member of the European Parliament, dismissed them as  “idiotic and suicidal” and said that Italy must raise its voice against their expansion.

“We have viewed [the sanctions] as being idiotic, suicidal, crazy and masochistic ever since they were introduced,” Salvini said, adding that if Prime Minister Matteo Renzi also realizes this, the Northern League would back him up.

“Better late than never," Salvini commented on this week’s media reports about Rome’s opposition to an automatic prolongation of the EU’s anti-Russian sanctions.

“We hope that we will enter 2016 together with Russia which will be a friend and ally, not an enemy under sanctions. This is primarily true about the war on terror, because we have Renzi who is sleeping and Putin who is working. I believe that we need to work harder,” he emphasized.
