BAGHDAD (Sputnik) — On Saturday, the Iraqi Foreign Ministry said it had officially filed a complaint with the UN Security Council, calling on the UN to ensure an immediate withdrawal of the Turkish forces from Iraq.
"The UN Security Council has not set a date so far to discuss our compliant regarding Turkish government's actions, we are waiting for the date to be scheduled," the source said.
According to the source, Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim Jaafari held phone talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US State Secretary John Kerry earlier. The talks were held in a positive way, the source specified.
On December 4, Turkey deployed about 150 troops and 25 tanks to a base in the Iraqi Nineveh province, without Baghdad’s approval. Baghdad views the deployment as illegal.
