CAIRO (Sputnik) — The initiative for a ceasefire, according to the statement, is attributed to Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, who submitted a respective request to the king of Saudi Arabia.
The truce will last from December 15 to December 21 "at the time of intra-Yemeni talks," the statement said.
The warring sides in Yemen are scheduled to hold UN-led peace talks in the Swiss city of Geneva on Tuesday, December 15.
Yemen has been engulfed in a military conflict between the government headed by Hadi and the Houthi rebels, who have been supported by army units loyal to former Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh.
Since late March, a Saudi-led coalition has been carrying out airstrikes against Houthi positions at Hadi’s request.
