BRUSSELS (Sputnik) — "I don’t see major problems in any of the member states on the political decision," Mogherini told journalists before a meeting of EU foreign ministers, answering a question on whether the sanctions would be extended.
She added that the issue was expected to be discussed by the European Council in the coming week.
Since 2014, the European Union and the United States have imposed several rounds of sanctions against Russia for its alleged involvement in the armed conflict in eastern Ukraine, which the Kremlin has repeatedly denied.
The EU economic restrictions, which has been prolonged several times, are set to expire on January 31.
On Wednesday, Italy called on the EU nations to debate the extension of the economic restrictions rather than simply "automatically" prolong them for another six months.
