The far-right National Front (FN) party’s failure to secure victory in the second round of regional elections does not preclude it from sending a strong message to society, a French center-right The Republicans opposition party lawmaker told Sputnik on Monday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik), Svetlana Alexandrova – The FN lost all 13 mainland regions on Sunday, a week after garnering first-place votes across six regions in the first round.

"Many of our fellow citizens made a turn concerning their first vote but let us not forget they had sent a very strong message on December 6," Jacques Myard said.

Myard, member of the French parliament’s foreign affairs committee, warned that an "erratic" pursuit of shifting ideology in France would constitute a "major failure" and stressed the need for an EU-wide recalibration.

Major Setback for Len Pen's Presidential Run Amid Election Acrimony
"Europe and its utopias, its economic and monetary short runs and its mass unemployment, the defense of national unity which is in jeopardy as well as our sovereignty, border controls and our migration policy, the French foreign policy towards Russia and the Middle East [need to be redefined]," he observed.

FN leader Marine Le Pen said the tripling of regional councilors vaulted her anti-migrant and eurosceptic party into a position of serving as France's main opposition force.
