MOSCOW (Sputnik), Svetlana Alexandrova – The Ecuadorian Foreign Ministry said on Friday that it had concluded a bilateral agreement with Sweden to facilitate the execution of legal procedures, subject to ratification on Thursday. The deal is said to pave the way for a formal request to question Assange inside the Ecuadorian embassy, where he has been living since June 2012.
"The timing of the questioning of Assange by the Swedish authority is a question that is decided by the prosecutor and I do not want to speculate about that," Thomas Olson said.
Olson said Assange’s legal team had not taken part in the bilateral negotiations between the Ecuadorian and Swedish authorities and had not been briefed on their results.
"The next step for his attorneys will be to wait for the information on the results of the negotiations before we can take any further steps," he added.
Sweden has been negotiating with Ecuador over the legal agreement since the summer of 2015, following Sweden’s request to question Assange in the Ecuadorian Embassy in the United Kingdom.
