Ankara expects "positive signals" from Moscow amid crisis in bilateral relations, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said Sunday following a meeting with Russian parliament upper house speaker Valentina Matvienko.

ANKARA (Sputnik) — Cavusoglu described the meeting with Matvienko in Ashgabat on Saturday as "heart-to-heart."

"Turkey stands for easing the tensions and resolving all issues in bilateral relations and international law. This requires positive signals from Russia," Cavusoglu said on the sidelines of the Rome talks on Lybian settlement, as quoted by the Turkish Anadolu news agency.

According to the foreign minister, Ankara expressed regret about the Su-24 incident.

In November, Turkey downed the Russian Su-24 front-line bomber over Syria due to alleged Turkish air space violation.

On Saturday, Matvienko said she hoped the Turkish leadership would "come to its senses and give an appropriate assessment of the incident and will make an apology to Russia."
