ANKARA (Sputnik) – According to the news station, 10 military vehicles left the Bashik camp not far from the city of Mosul.
Iraqi authorities said Turkish servicemen and armored vehicles entered Iraqi territory on December 4. Iraq has called the presence of Turkish military on its territory illegal and has demanded Ankara immediately withdraw the troops.
Ankara justified the deployment with the necessity to provide security to Turkish soldiers deployed earlier at the base to train local militias, fighting the Islamic State (IS, or Daesh in Arabic) group, which is outlawed in a number of countries worldwide, including Russia.
However, Iraqi authorities so far do not have any information that would confirm that Turkey has withdrawn some of its military troops from the country’s northern region, an Iraqi government source told Sputnik on Monday.
“We currently don’t have any information confirming the withdrawal of Turkish troops from Iraq,” the source said.
