TSKHINVAL (Sputnik) — Islamic State (ISIL, or Daesh in Arabic) militants may carry out attacks on the border between Georgia and South Ossetia, the head of the South Ossetian delegation at the meeting under the Joint Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) said Wednesday.
"Militants could target, firstly, Russian border guards and South Ossetian border guards, the EUMM’s [European Union Monitoring Mission in Georgia] guard patrols, Georgian police patrols who monitor the border. In addition, there could be abductions of civilians or creation of unfavourable conditions for the civilian population," David Sanakoev said during the meeting.
He added that the militants fighting alongside the Daesh, a group outlawed in Russia, had come from Syria to Georgia.
According to Sanakoev, attacks may be carried out close to New Year and Christmas holidays.
