On Tuesday, Viktor Khristenko said in an interview to Rossiya-24 television channel that Iran was among priority countries for the EEU in terms of creating a free trade zone.

"For the [Eurasian Economic] union [Iran] is certainly an exceptionally interesting partner from the point of view of its current economic position for the countries of our five-member union. It is quite important and interesting for Armenia, for example, that has established deep, direct contacts with Iranian colleagues," Khristenko said.

He added that Iran also had an important geopolitical position and good potential for cooperation with the EEU.

The Eurasian Economic Union is a bloc conceived to streamline the flow of goods, capital and labour between its member nations, namely Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan. The union came into being on January 1, 2015.
