WUZHEN (China) (Sputnik) – The Internet should be open, but it is necessary for international organizations to regulate it, Russian Prime Minster Dmitry Medvedev said Wednesday.
"We support the policy of strengthening the role of the international community in the governance of the Internet and the development of a global approach in this area. We believe that this should be conducted under the auspices of leading international institutions, including the United Nations, and rely on one sector-specific (UN) organization, the International Telecommunication Union, in particular," Medvedev said at the Second World Internet Conference in China.
According to him, no country can act as a universal regulator.
