UNITED NATIONS (Sputnik) – The United Kingdom anticipates that the UN Security Council will adopt a resolution on Syria in support of the Vienna process on Friday, British UN Ambassador Matthew Rycroft said.
"I hope that if all goes well in the next few days that on the second one we’ll also see adoption of the resolution, which will endorse Vienna process," Rycroft told reporters.
According to him, two ministerial-level meetings are scheduled for Friday, including in a collective format, which has been formed in Vienna, and a UN Security Council session.
The talks would become an important impetus for the much-needed transition in Syria, he stressed.
Speaking at a joint news briefing after talks with US Secretary of State John Kerry in Moscow, Lavrov said the meeting would focus on drafting a UNSC resolution affirming the agreements on Syrian political settlement reached during the Vienna talks.
